A tribute to our service men

I grew up in the service. My father was an Air Force veteran. He served in Viet Nam. I remember it well. I was young and scared. And PROUD.

These images were taken during the Military Appreciation Month ceremony at Evening in Old Seville, Pensacola FL.

Earth Day in East Hill

And yes, Nikki and I went. It was a rather overcast day, but Earth Day stops for no bad weather. There was all sorts of environmental kiosks and your normal festival things.

The Fish House & Grits YaYa

One of my favorite places to eat in P'Cola is the Fish House. Why? For the Grits YaYa. Creamy goodness in grit form. Who would of ever guessed that a Northern girl would fall for the charms of Grits YaYa?

Fort Pickens...the rest of the story

To coin a phrase from Paul Harvey, the legendary syndicated commentator. This is the rest of the story from our Fort Pickens visit.

Lulu's

The end of April, we found ourselves at Lulu's, a little resturant in Alabama. We had eaten at her original resturant before she moved it to the current location.

A fun fact about Lulu is she is Jimmy Buffet's little sister. It is fun to look at her memorabilia. And yes, you can get a cheeseburger in paradise there!

Life is not always pretty

It pains me to think of what is happening at this very moment while I type this post. Gallons and gallons of crude oil is being emptied into our beautiful Gulf of Mexico. I can't help but think for how long we will enjoy our sugar white beaches.

I was down in the dumps about this and my friend Barb wrote this to me

"You will get some pics that will help change the world we live in. Get prepared. Clean you lens. Life is not always pretty. Reality is part of life too."
So maybe so. Maybe that is why I take pictures. Life is not always pretty.

Flowers in our yard...

...Or why I love our home! The azaleas were out in full force. Sadly, they are done blooming for this year. But, OH MY, what a show they put on. Much to my surprise, the whole property line on the east is laced with azalea bushes.

Joe Patti's

One of my favorite places to go in P'cola for seafood is Joe Patti's. It is a great place to get fresh seafood. Plus, it has a lovely dock.

The Forts of Pensacola...showcasing Pickens

In doing a search for a layout of the Forts in Pensacola, this article came up. I thought it was interesting.

THE FORTS AT PENSACOLA, FLA.

Published: January 12, 1861

CHARLESTON, Friday, Jan. 11.

A private dispatch to the Courier says that the Federal troops have abandoned all the forts in Pensacola Harbor, except Fort Pickens, where they are concentrated, and that three hundred men have left Mobile to surprise Fort Pickens.

Fort Pickens

Fee Free Week for National Parks Week was from Saturday April 17 through Sunday April 25. And we took advantage of it. I haven't been out to Fort Pickens since we moved here and have really been wanting to go. It was so beautiful. All of these images were taken within the gates of the park.

Let's start with blue...

These are pictures from around Pensacola. The first was just snapped from 3 Mile Bridge going towards Pensacola. Somewhere over there is our little house. Makes me happy.

Spring in East Hill

I love my neighborhood. I know I've said that before. (But, if you have read my blog at all, you realize that I repeat myself often.) There is just so much to love. And now that it is spring, well, it is exploding with vibrant colors and heady sweet smells from the flowers of spring. This little exquisite beauty was on a tree in my front yard. (As a matter of fact, all the flowers in this particular post are from my yard!)

Being my first spring here, it was like Christmas each morning. I would stroll through my yard to see what had come up new, what was blooming, what looked promising. This tree was a mystery to me. I didn't know if it bloomed, or just offered shade and beauty. But, one morning I got up and there was such a sweet smell in the air...I soon saw these blooms covering this little tree!!
