A Sunday Afternoon Farmers Market {Part 1 of 5}

D found a new farmers market that is on Sunday afternoon. It is located in Vilano Beach. I didn't take the next picture, but I included it to show where the market is. See the long pier? It was at the beginning of that. We got there a bit early, so we took a stroll to the end of the pier.

The day was beautiful after a looooooooong bout of rain. If I recall correctly, it did rain again, but only after we were home.

A Sunday Afternoon Farmers Market {Part 3 of 5}

There is a certain stand that has the most beautiful produce. It seems I always take a picture or two of their veggies and fruit. Today they hammed it up for the camera!

The next was the most bizarre thing. It was a huge bird statue in a chain link cage. Just before the pier entrance. Apparently it was from an old motel, long gone. But, someone, in their infinite wisdom, decided to preserve this little chunk of Americana in it's little cage of chain link, forever.

A Sunday Afternoon Farmers Market {Part 4 of 5}

The day before, we went into town, and of course, I stopped by the Saturday morning farmers market. I met D downtown for breakfast, then he headed home. So, I was on my own. I didn't stay long at the market, because it started to rain.

After I left the market, and started home, it stopped raining for a bit. So, I made a little stop at a dock that I haven't been to before.

Saturday afternoon in the park {Part 1 of 3}

We went into St. Augustine for lunch, and to just get a break from the pressures of trying to move. We parked by the Bay and walked up to A1A Ale House for lunch.

Saturday afternoon in the park {Part 2 of 3}

Inside the A1A Ale House was cool and nice. We enjoyed a tall glass of iced tea while waiting for our lunch. I took the following image, and didn't see the reflection of the woman in the copper fountain on the bar until after I got home and put it on the computer. Quite interesting.

While we were eating D commented on a picture on the wall and how much he liked it. A vintage photograph of New York. A very interesting image indeed.

After lunch I walked over to the park to see what all was going on. D walked back to the car and sat on the bay until I got there. I still don't know what the event was. There were people everywhere. A band, with drums. Only drums. But lovely drums. With oodles of spirit. Made you want to dance through the park. They were dressed colorfully with flowing feathers.

Somewhere between that band and the next photo, I teared up. The thought of leaving all of the magic that is St. Augustine just overwhelmed me. But, I moved on.

I have seen Gary several times before, at the Saturday morning Farmer's Market in St. Augustine. Sometimes I saw him with the musicians playing his flute, or pushing his bike through the crowd to find a suitable parking place so he could do his market shopping. I have never spoken to him.

Until today.

Like I said. I was in the park. They were having a festival. I don't know what this festival was. I just happened upon it. One of the many pleasures of living in St. Augustine. Music. People. Artists. Just wonderful. Then I saw Gary sitting near the entrance to the park painting. I almost walked by, but was so taken by the fact that he was painting, that I had to stop and talk with him. Soon I just sat on the sidewalk in front of him and enjoyed the conversation.

As it turns out, he is a man of many talents. An actor, painter, writer, musician. A modern times renaissance man. He has lived in St. Augustine the last 10 years. He has also lived in San Francisco. And he is a world traveler.

When I finally asked him if I may take his portrait for 100 strangers, he readily agreed. So we continued talking, and I shot away. A wonderful session.

He also gave me two of his pencil sketches! He says he is working on improving his face sketches. I said I'm working on improving my 100 strangers portraits...trying to not have out of focus portraits.

Cinco de Mayo and more... {Part 1 of 3}

Back home in St. Augustine. It is nice. But sad. We'll be moving soon. That is exciting, but sad to leave the Auggie Doggie. We were home for Cinco de Mayo. And, traditionally, we like to go out for a Margarita and Mexican food. This year we chose Acapulos. Had a wonderful margarita and great fajitas.

In the resturant I took the next two photos.

Pensacola Bound? {Part 1 of 6}

We took (another) trip to Pensacola/Gulf Breeze. We are considering moving there, so this was business mixed with pleasure. More pleasure. Less business. That is only if you consider looking at homes with a Realtor pleasure. The verdict is out on that one. But, even with a Realtor, I enjoy home looking. The trip is really too long. 6 hours from St. Augustine. By the time we got there, were were dragging.

On the road...a stop at Cracker Barrel

One of the homes we are considering is in a lovely old neighborhood that is undergoing a transformation. East Hill. I think I could really love living there. It is old and new. Fixing the old. Renovation. Restoration. A very connected neighborhood. Parks. Bayou Texar. Shaded streets. Front porches. All that is what a home should be.

In this neighborhood is a sweet little bakery...Jay's. An institution. It closed a few years ago, but happily reopened soon after due to a united outcry from residents. We stopped there often due to my sugar cookie addiction. Stress related. The cookies were strictly medicinal.
